St. Edward’s Catholic Church (Mingladon Township)
St. Edward’s Church is located in Mingaladon town, which is one of the 14 Yangon City parishes and 13 miles distant from the Centre of the City.
On 21 November 1929 Bishop Cardot appointed Fr. Frederick Whittaker to look after the Catholic families and military men living in the Mingladon Military Area. Fr. Whittaker arrived there on 22 December 1929 and started his mission work. The construction of the present church was started on 13 October 1938.
The Diamond Jubilee of the parish was celebrated on 17th October 2004 presided by His Grace Archbishop Charles Bo. According to the 2004 statistics, 1068 Catholics are living in this parish. |
